When you check in for a reservation, you must show your host proof of your driver's license and identification, collect the keys, and document the vehicle's condition. If you agree with your host, you can complete check-in and start your reservation up to one hour early.
Ensure You Have the Appropriate Documents
You can start the check-in process up to 24 hours before your scheduled reservation start time. The first step in the check-in process is to have and show photos of your driver's license and identification.
Although you provided your driver's license information when creating your account, the license photos submitted during check-in serve a different purpose. For your safety and the security of our platform, your host will request photos or the physical documents in person to verify that your license is valid and belongs to you, the primary driver.
It is important to present a license that is valid for a reservation on Sync. Sync does not allow, and your host cannot accept, an expired, altered, temporary, provisional, or legally restricted license. Hosts also cannot accept learner’s permits.
All hosts can accept a valid International Driver’s Permit during check-in. They may also accept an International Driving License.
If you are meeting your host in person to pick up the vehicle, they will ask you to show your current, valid license. Hosts cannot accept a photo or screenshot of your license or a digital driver’s license. You must present the physical license.
Collecting the Keys
Your host must either hand you the vehicle’s keys or give you access to them—even if the vehicle is equipped with remote locking and unlocking. If they do not, call customer support from the app menu.
Documenting the Vehicle’s Condition
Before you start driving, ensure that the vehicle meets legal requirements, is safe to drive, and is clean. Use the Sync app to take and upload timestamped photos and follow our guidelines to clearly document all areas of the vehicle. Taking pre-rental photos is essential to protect yourself in case the vehicle has pre-existing damage or cleanliness/smoking issues. These photos can also serve as proof if you receive an inaccurate invoice from your host for any post-trip charges.
How Early Can I Pick Up the Vehicle?
If your host and the vehicle are ready and you agree, you can complete check-in and start your reservation up to one hour before the scheduled start time.
Note: You must complete the check-in process in the app for your early reservation start to be valid.
