Suspicious Charges, Notifications, or Updates
The best way to protect yourself and your Sync account from online fraud is to stay vigilant and report anything that seems unusual. This includes suspicious charges, notifications, and account update alerts.
Suspicious Charges
If a charge from Sync appears on your credit card or bank account and you have not used Sync, contact us, and we will investigate.
Suspicious Booking Notifications
If you receive a notification that you have made a booking on Sync but you have not, follow these instructions immediately to try to cancel the booking. Then, contact us. Click the widget at the bottom of this page and follow the instructions.
Suspicious Account Updates
If you receive a text message or email about changes to your password, email address, phone number, payment method, or provider payment account that you did not authorize, contact us immediately at help@thesync.com to secure your account and update your password.
Suspicious Emails and Fake Websites
Phishing emails look like official emails from Sync but are not. Instead, they try to trick you into visiting a fake website or calling a fraudulent phone number. The goal of scammers is to steal your personal information.
An official email from Sync will never ask for your bank account details, credit card numbers, password, or identification number. It will never claim that Sync will close your account if you do not confirm, verify, or authenticate your personal information via email. It will never claim that we need to confirm important information via email due to system upgrades.
If you receive a suspicious email, forward the entire email to help@thesync.com. Do not change the subject line and do not forward the message as an attachment. Do not click on links or download attachments. Delete the suspicious email from your inbox.
If you open a suspicious email, you may find yourself on a website that does not look at all like what you would expect from Sync. Or the website may look very similar to Sync but have a suspicious URL. For example, a URL formatted as sync.fakewebsite.com. The fact that "sync" is part of the URL does not guarantee that the website is Sync’s official website.
If you believe you are on a fake website, do not enter any information. Copy the website’s address and paste it into an email. Send the email to help@thesync.com.
Suspicious Phone Calls or Text Messages
Phishing scammers may contact you via phone or text message. They will pretend to be representatives from a legitimate service and attempt to trick you into providing personal information.
A common scam is receiving a call or text message from a number unrelated to Sync, asking questions such as, "Are you still using your Sync account?" or "When was the last time you used Sync?" They hope you will share your two-factor authentication code.
Hang up the phone or do not respond to the text message. Sync will never ask for your two-factor authentication code. We will never request any personal information such as banking details, credit card numbers, passwords, or identification numbers.
If you receive a suspicious phone call or text message, send an email to Sync at help@thesync.com. Create a subject line: Suspicious Phone Call. In the email, describe the call or message and share any contact details provided.
Gift Card Scams
Sync will never call you to request payment for a booking using a gift card. Scammers often request payment over the phone and ask the victim to share the gift card code or PIN.
Best Password Practices
You can protect your sensitive information from fraud and data breaches by using a unique, strong password.
- Use a different password for each online service. If a fraudster manages to breach a website, they will not be able to access other accounts.
- Use a password longer than eight characters that includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Avoid using personal information that hackers can easily guess, such as your contact details, birthdate, or Social Security number.
- Use a password manager to store your unique and complex passwords that are difficult to remember. It is the number one way to increase your security.
